Today is quite a significant update in that it marks the rewrite of our audio system! You should notice most, if not all, audio issues across the site fixed regardless of your device or browser. We have noted general fixes below if you want to search for a specific issue that you were having.

NOTE - Autoplay on flashcards now works correctly according to your settings, but if you have it set to autoplay on the front of the flashcard, you will have to tap the screen once after starting your reviews to enable it. This is a limitation of iOS that we cannot work around and are working on better messaging to inform users of this limitation.

System

Dialogues

• Dialogues will no longer play the first line over top of other lines under certain circumstances.
• Dialogues now work correctly on Firefox.Flashcards
• Flashcard audio will now auto play and respect your study settings.Lessons
• It is now significantly easier to tap the controls of lesson audio.
• You can now replay lesson audio after it has finished.Kana Tool
• Example words with audio in the kana tool are now easier to tap.Shadow Albums
• The Dialogues album in the shadow player should no longer try to play a track that doesn't exist.Time Calculations
• Your active days/total days on the platform now respect your reset time which should result in less confusion.Flashcard Heatmap
• The numbers in the flashcard heatmap are now grouped based on your configured study day rather than going from midnight to midnight. This should result in accurate numbers.

Content

Typos / missing content

• Fixed a typo in an English explanation in "Asking Questions" lesson.
• Fixed missing highlighting on 客 vocab card.
• Fixed a missing space in the "Intro to 四字熟語" lesson summary.
• Fixed a typo in an English explanation in "Forming compound verbs" lesson.
• Fixed highlighting on お菓子 vocab card. Added furigana to the note, too.
• Fixed a typo in "The wheel of productive studies" Using NativShark article.
• Fixed grammatical error in 夜 kanji mnemonic.
• Added missing example word and sentence for kunyomi on 生 kanji flashcard.
• Fixed a typo in the mnemonic of 飛 kanji flashcard.
• かかる vocab flashcard was defined as かかる. Fixed to be English.
• Fixed wrong reading of １万 (いちまん) in 寄 kanji flashcard.

New explanations

• Updated a note in the "A conversation at a restaurant." dialogue that aims to clear confusion about うん being translated as "no."
• Reworded an explanation in "How to ask for a non-smoking seat" lesson involving the smoking and non-smoking sections existing commonly or not.
• Added info in a Deep Look box on what word you would use to say "take" when you "take a shower." Lesson: How to ask “May I take a picture?”
• Added a Writer's Note in "How to say 'I don't understand'" lesson which explains how we translate sentences naturally, and then use the literals to give us exactly what is being said in Japanese.
• Clarified an example context in "How to ask 'May I take a picture?'" lesson regarding asking for a picture with goth lolita vampires.
• Explained how the ん in んだ is a contraction of の in "The んだ of explanation" lesson. Also noted that using のだ in conversation will probably make you sound weird unless you live in an anime.

Audio

• Added missing audio in the following sentence: パンは食たべません。
• Added missing audio in the following sentence: 起きたら電話するね。
• Fixed missing audio in 彼は僕の弟です。 lesson flashcard.
